Tough times – Learning to appreciate tough times

By

Everyone goes through good and tough times in their lives.  Perhaps we are lives, enjoying very day until the day that an obstacle or challenge presents in our lives. This could be a small obstacle or could be something really serious, heartbreaking and depressing that could happen to us.  When this happens what is important to remember is that you can choose how to respond to this challenge.

Ultimately everything in our lives boils down to the way in which we respond to situations. Our life is a succession of choices that we make when we are presented with situations or events. Some of the choices we make. Many times we make these choices unconsciously because we have been conditioned that way. The secret that allows you to convert your challenges into opportunities is remembering that ultimately we have the power to decide how we will react to situations.

Let’s consider the simplified idea of seeing the glass full or empty. Each of us perceives a situation in different ways, depending on our conditioning, our background, upbringing and many other aspects that influence how we see an event. Imagine a situation of a car accident, provided there are no injuries the drivers of the cars involved in the accident t will not be happy with the situation, but the tow truck driver that gets to the accident scene would be the happiest person in this situation. Can you see two totally opposing perspectives? The two persons involved in the accident would have a bad day if the choose to but for the tow truck driver it would have been a great day.

What this example tells us that the world around us simply exists, but it is us who puts the perceptions and feelings that make a situation positive or negative. I say this again, the world simply exists; it is our perception that determines if a situation is good or bad. Because we are creative, and we are in control of our thoughts then we can choose to make the situation positive or negative. If we are faced with an event or situation where we reacted negatively before we can choose now to change that and react in a positive manner. We can choose to create positive beliefs about the event. Remember you can create your own beliefs; you can change all your beliefs around and make them positive.

I am personally working on the habit of cherishing tough times, knowing that I can change how I perceive a situation and knowing that after a door closes another opens. It is important for me to stay focused on the positive even if I encounter many challenges and obstacles. When I encounter a challenge I remember Robert Collier’s quote, “In every adversity there lies the seed of an equivalent advantage.”

Let’s consider Dustin Carter situation.  Dustin was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder at age 5. To save his life the doctors had to amputate the majority of his limbs. The doctors were forced to amputate the majority of all of his limbs. But this did not put Dustin off. In spite of his circumstances he is a top student wrestler working towards a full wrestling scholarship. He is an inspiration to everyone and he really gives hopes to anyone that is in his same situation or anyone that think they have no solution to their problems.

In this information era many people facing tough times were able to change this situation and become successful entrepreneurs. There are hundreds of examples just in the internet world or the real estate world. One of the examples that come to mind is Ryan Higgins, creator of the mind movie. He was 70000 dollars in debt and frustrated with a job that did not interest him. He turned his situation around and now he is living the life of his dreams.

Another example would be Robert Allen in the real estate arena. He run a controversial ad saying that if you leave him in any city with 100 USD and no wallet he would still be able to buy a property. After this ad his book No money Down went to the top of the New York Times Best Seller. An LA reporter then challenged him and called him a fraud. Robert had to then prove himself not to lose his reputation and his business. SO he was taken to San Francisco, given 100 USD and his wallet was taken away. He needed to make this work; otherwise his career would be ruined. With a positive mindset he could pull it off. He bought with 100USd 7 properties worth $7000,000 in 57 hours. Well he rose to success after this incident.

Do you think your life will be different if you could change a negative experience into something positive? Do you think if you look at things positively you would be bale to see more doors opening for you? Perhaps you would see it as a growing experience? Despite all the tough times you are experiencing right now, if you decide to look at the positive aspects of the situation you will start to experience incredible result sin your life and you would be an inspiration to others.

As a further inspiration to show you that you can overcome any tough time in your life, I leave you with a video from Dick and Rick Hoyt, The story says this

A son asked his father, “Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?” The father who despite having a heart condition, said, “Yes”.

They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying, “Yes” to his son’s request of going through the race together.

One day, the son asked his father, ‘Dad, let us join the Ironman together; to which his father said, “Yes”, too.

For those who don’t know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever. The race consists of three endurance events of a 2.4 miles (3.86 kilometers) ocean swim followed by a 112 miles (180.2 kilometers) bike ride and ending with a 26.2 miles (42.195 kilometers) marathon along the coast of the Big Island.

Father and son went on to complete the race together.
